Despite Strong Growth and Shorter Searches Executive Employment Outlook Retreats

April 21, 2005 - With the executive employment market well on its way to recovery, executives are beginning to question if the pace of job growth can sustain itself in the months ahead.

According to the survey of 115 executives, 44% describe conditions in the executive employment market during the past 30 days as improving - up from 40% in March.

Despite this growth, just 33% are confident or very confident the job market will improve in the next six months - down sharply from 70% last month. Fifty percent (50%) are somewhat confident and 8% are not confident the job market will get better during the next six months.

Executive job growth was very strong in the first quarter of 2005, as evidenced by a 33% increase in the number of job listings posted on ExecuNet during this time, says Mark Anderson, President of ExecuNet. While all signs point toward a continued recovery, it will be difficult to top the pace of this growth in the months ahead.

Among executives actively looking for a new opportunity, many were relatively new entrants to the executive job market having spent an average of 4.6 months in search - down from 6.8 months in an identical survey earlier this year. During the past 30 days, they had an average of 2.8 interviews.
